Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Pattern is written using standard US stitches.
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • magic circle/adjustable ring Photo tutorial provided
  • invisible decrease Insert hook under front loop of first stitch. Insert hook under front loop of second stitch. Yarn over, pull through two loops on hook, yarn over and pull though last two loops on hook.
  • reverse single crochet (crab stitch) Without turning work, sc from left to right.

Pattern Description:

Available in 5 sizes to fit everyone in your family. This adorable pig hat can be made with or without the earflaps. Also includes optional pig tail!

My beautiful model is 19 months old with a 19" head circumference. She is wearing a medium.

GAUGE: 6 rounds (see pattern) = 4"

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Extra Small fits approximate 141/2-16" head circumference (average newborn - 3 months)
  • Small fits approximate 16-18" head circumference (average 3 - 9 months)
  • Medium fits approximate 18-19" head circumference (average 9 months - 3 years)
  • Large fits approximate 19-201/2" head circumference (3 years - 6 years)
  • Extra Large fits approximate 20.5-22" head circumference (6 years - adult)


  • 2 balls Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Zinnia (109 yards, 50 grams/ball) or equivalent
  • Small amount of Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Black for nostrils and eyes
  • (2) 3/4" - 1" black buttons (optional-not recommended on hats for children younger than 3 years old)
  • G/6 (4.25 mm) hook or size needed to obtain correct gauge
