Basic Skills Necessary:

Pattern is written using standard US stitches.
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
magic circle/adjustable ring See attached tutorial.
inv hdc dec = Invisible half double crochet decrease. Yarn over, insert hook through front loop of 1st stitch. Insert hook through front loop of 2nd stitch. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
sc dec = Single crochet decrease. Insert hook under both loops of 1st stitch, pull through a loop. Insert hook under both loops of 2nd stitch, pull through a loop. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Gauge checkpoints are given in the pattern. Exact gauge is not essential in this project. When checking gauge, measure from the last stitch made all the way across.

Approximately 61/2" wide by 12" long

Materials:

Knit Picks Comfy Worsted; 109 yards/50 grams; 75% pima cotton, 25% acrylic or equivalent
Main Color Lion (MC) 1 ball Crme Brle (Yellow) (approximately 75 yards/34 grams)
Contrast Color Lion (CC) 1 ball Carrot (Orange) (approximately 31 yards/14 grams)
Main Color Hippo (MC) 1 ball Blackberry (approximately 80 yards/36 grams)
Contrast Color Hippo (CC) 1 ball Vinca (approximately 30 yards/13 grams)
1 ball White (small amount)
1 ball Black (small amount)
G (4.00 mm) hook, or size need to obtain gauge

You Will Also Need:

Velcro (hook and loop closure)
1 standard (US) 12oz can of soda or something with either a 4" or 8" circumference (Lion)
2 pieces of white wool felt for Hippo teeth, approximately 1/2" X 1/4" each (optional)
stitch markers, yarn needle, needle and matching thread
