"Flapper" is a simple to make crocheted cloche hat from baby size to adult. It reminds me of the 20's era of cloche hats. This hat has a solid construction suitable for fall or winter wear. The last brim rows of the hat are called ribbed rows. They can be either one solid brim as the rainbow colored sample, 2 rows like the teen red hat, 3 rows like the baby pink hat or even with a scalloped edge like the pink hat.
A cloche hat is a fitted, bell shaped hat that was popular during the 1920s. Cloche is the French word for bell. Often, different styles of ribbons affixed to the hats indicated different messages about the wearer.
I have included instructions for making a detachable fluffy flower and leaves. You can make this flower with less rounds and add it to a hair band or make a hair bow or lapel pin.
I made my samples out of cotton, wool blend or acrylic yarns but most any sport weight yarn is suitable. You will only need to know basic crochet skills to accomplish construction of this hat.
Size is determined by measurements and not by crochet gauge, making it easy to accomplish a perfect fit.

I do not have a fairy tale or quaint story to tell. I am just a hard working mother of 5 children and now I am raising 2 teen granddaughters. I have a great husband who even finds time after his long day to compliment me on my sewing designs.

I started sewing in the third grade. Our school custodian taught several of us girls how to sew after we had finished our class work. Can you believe we had a spare classroom set up as a sewing room?! She also helped my mother after school and continued to teach me at home.
All through my school years, I won state and local sewing & design contests. With the contest scholarships, I started college majoring in fashion design. I later switched to business and started raising a family. My daughter and granddaughters still kid me about being a fashion designer when I criticize their choice of attire. I am ancient in their eyes.
