Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You need to know how to chain, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch.
  • Also uses front- and back-post double crochet (instructions in pattern)

Pattern Description:

Even if you're a beginner you can crochet something besides a potholder (not that there is anything wrong with potholders!).

This simple shrug is just a rectangle. Yes - a rectangle! It's a perfect summer accessory to add a little pizzazz to your favorite tank top dress.

It works up very quickly - you may be tempted to make several in different colors so you'll always look very 'put together'!

Super easy, quick pattern - no abbreviations; everything is written out for you. A great project if you're just learning to read crochet patterns.


Ribbing: 8 stitches & 5 rows = 2 inches

Body of Shrug: 4 double crochet/3 chains & 3 rows = 2 inches

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • women's medium; easily customized to any size


  • 6 - 8 ounces of worsted weight yarn (cotton used for model)
  • Crochet hook size G-6/4.0mm
  • Crochet hook size K-10.5/6.5mm

You Will Also Need:

  • yarn needle for weaving in ends
