You can use different yarns as the size is'nt really important but I do find that a cotton yarn is neater...

I started crocheting and knitting when I was young ,not sure which came first. I crochet my own Wedding Dress 40 years ago in Twilleys cotton just wish I had saved it to hand down to my Grand-daughter's.
