Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Pattern is written using standard US stitches.
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • Puff Stitch - Yarn over, insert hook and pull up a loop, [yarn over, insert hook in same and pull up a loop] 3X, yarn over and pull through all 9 loops on hook.
  • Foundation single crochet - instructions provided or use a starting chain and sc the first row if you prefer.

Pattern Description:

The Black Raspberry Shawl Pattern creates a beautiful triangular shaped shawl that is worked top down. Wear it as a shawl, scarf or wrapped like a cowl. The pattern is written with DK yarn (Bernat Cotton-ish or Knit Picks CotLin) but you should be able to use whatever yarn you like. Heavier yarn will yield a larger shawl, thinner yarn will yield a smaller shawlette.

Pattern includes a chart of the main stitch pattern, edging beginning and ending rows, edging stitch repeat and the center point.

13 stitches, 15 rows, 3 inches in sc
Stitch pattern gauge stated in pattern but exact gauge is not essential. If your gauge is close to stated gauge, your finished shawl will be close to the reported measurements.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • One size fits most. Before blocking, approximately 60" wingspan, 16" at widest point.


  • Bernat Cotton-ish or equivalent (light weight-3), 55% cotton 45% acrylic [2.4oz/70g, 282yd/258m] per skein, almost 3 skeins, estimated total yarn [6.5 oz/180g 764yd/660m]
  • G (4.00 mm) hook or size needed to obtain correct gauge
