Lesson Plan


Lesson 1. Gear Up

  • Join Rick in Colorado’s stunning Great Sand Dunes National Park for an introduction to landscape photography and the essential gear that can help take your photos to the next level.


Lesson 2. Sunrise

  • Work with light, shadows, composition and exposure as you take photos at sunrise, which is one of the most interesting times of day to shoot.


Lesson 3. Midday Shoot

  • Experiment with filters, lenses and composition techniques as you learn to think like a painter. Rick shows you how shooting at midday can be more rewarding than you may have thought!


Lesson 4. Sunset Shoot

  • Capture every last ray of light in the “golden hour” of sunset as you learn how to achieve the drama of deep shadows and contrasting foregrounds and backgrounds.


Lesson 5. Specialty Shots

  • Explore digital darkroom techniques for landscape photography, including black-and-white settings, format options, selecting your strongest photos, and more.
