Meet Allie Aller, the author of "Allie Aller's Crazy Quilting: Modern Piecing and Embellishing Techniques for Joyful Stitching." She gives an overview of the techniques and project in this class.
In the basic "Flip and Sew" method, you will cut fabrics using templates, then stitch them onto muslin stabilized with interfacing. Then launch into basic decorative stitches.
Assembling curved pieces is a little trickier, but Allie demonstrates and troubleshoots the process. Add three new hand embroidery stitches!
Freezer paper makes appliqué faster and easier. Learn how to prepare and apply the pieces, then stitch the detached chain, fly and extended fly stitches.
Victorian ladies used scraps of their dress fabrics in crazy quilting, adding sumptuous brocades, fancy lace and delicate silk. Learn how to handle vintage fabrics, pick up the chevron and Cretan stitches, and find out about what Allie calls "Intuitive Appliqué."
The lesson name says it all! Combine stitches like chain, feather and French knot to embellish your seams. Add beads and decorative threads for more color and shine!
Silk ribbons, colorful flowers, jewels and gems create pretty accents for your quilts.
Put the finishing touches on your blocks and display them proudly!

Crazy quilting produces fanciful designs that explode with embellishment on asymmetrical patchwork. You’ll learn to stabilize fancy fabrics like velvet, silk, lace or vintage finds, then discover four-block construction methods sewn on a muslin foundation, including straight seams, curved seams, freezer paper applique, and free-form techniques. Then let your crazy imagination run wild as you combine 10 basic and advanced hand embroidery stitches to make fabulous seam treatments, embellishing with silk ribbon flowers, beads, buttons, couching, applique, and charms. Finish with display tips for both a four-patch quilt or single blocks. You’ll love the freedom to customize your crazy quilt with your favorite textures, colors, and stitches. Allie Aller demonstrates her easy techniques and shares her joyous approach to this traditional art form.
