Laura Nelkin lives in upstate New York, where the sunny season is short, leaving plenty of time to be indoors knitting. Though she has a degree in apparel design, she took to knitting seven years ago and hasn't looked back since. Laura is currently enamored with lace, and with incorporating beads into knitted jewelry, so most of her designs lean in this direction. She travels often to teach these techniques and more at workshops around the country. Her designs have been featured in a number of online publications, including Interweave, Knitty.com, Schaefer Yarn Co. and Creative Knitting.

A great class, great teacher, I learned a lot. I love being able to watch a technique multiple times, there are times when it just doesn't come the first go around. I made skywalker and I will make the next one as well.

I have recently been making a lot of shawls and this class of Laura's is really helping. Also taking her class on beads because I add beads to most of my shawls and scarves. She is an excellent teacher and the class instruction is very easy to follow. Have not yet made either shawl but plan on doing so soon and will be not only following along using this class but using her other class to add beads to my shawls. The Knitting This - Mastering Lace Shawls - is fabulous. Our teacher, Laura Nelkin, is a very thorough and well prepared instructor. She makes the class very enjoyable and the skills I have acquired are amazing for someone that said "I will never knit lace." This is a class that shouldn't be missed.

I had some knitting experience before enrolling in this class but hadn't knit very much and certainly no lace! However Laura is a BRILLIANT teacher, breaking everything into really clear steps and sharing some really useful hints and tips.
