What You'll Need:
Part 1: Making the Pattern
- A pair of jeans that fits
- 1 1/2 yards silk organza, in a buff, grey, or dull shade
- Colored pencils for drawing on fabric
- Roll of white kraft paper
- Basting thread, any type
- L-square, or other drafting ruler
- Drafting curve
- Tracing wheel
- Muslin
Part 2: Making the Jeans
- 1 1/2 -2 yards of fabric
- Machine sewing thread and topstitching thread (optional)
- Topstitching needles
- Zipper of sufficient length for fly front
- Diagonal wire cutters, needle-nose pliers, and a hammer
- Button (or hook and eye)
- 1/4 yard of thin muslin
- Tracing wheel and tracing carbon, or chalk

I just loved this class. All though I have made jeans before, you can always glean new information, and this class is full of that.
I loved using the organza for the pattern, and the technique for the zipper was new and better than what I had learned to do. I also like the pocket drafting part. That is important to me since the pockets will bulge if you don't extend them and sew them into the fly for stability. I always look for that in readywear jeans before I buy.
amazing class
I am newer to sewing and learned a lot. i am looking forward to making my first pants. I am sure this was not a class that was intended for beginners however the teacher explained things step by step so well I think I will be able to make a pair.
Jeans That Really Do Fit!
Yeah! I finally finished my jeans and they fit perfectly! I learned some new techniques from this class and I have been sewing for many, many years. This was the first time I have made my own pattern. I can't wait to make my second pair of jeans with my new personal pattern. Next time, though, I'll use non-stretch fabric as suggested. Finally!
Even though I've been sewing for 40+ years, Kenneth King's class gave me useful tools to make a pair of jeans that actually fit me. Taking the measurements from RTW jeans that fit well and drafting a workable pattern was the key. This said, I've never bought a pair of jeans that I've been able to wear without altering in some way. This really stung when the jeans were expensive to begin with.
