Hi! I am new to quilting and experience the frustrations that come with expecting to be able to whiz on through the "easy stuff' and then become discouraged when I make "silly mistakes". Even though experienced quilters say "there are no mistakes' and "don't worry, you can fix it" those gliches become time consuming and I would prefer to sew "on course," receiving guidance along the way, not after the mistakes get larger and I do not know how to fix them, other than to start over. I learned to sew when I was in junior high as sewing was a" job". My parents owned a sewing machine business, so my mom gladly sewed all of my clothes. My older sister was Miss Perfect and also sewed, but I was the "fun and popular" one, too busy to stay home and sew. I grew to love sewing as I grew older and was attracted to beautiful fabrics and loved tailored and costume looks. I often said I would have a home surrounded by fine tapestries and envisioned the success of such fabric. While building my career, I sewed my own clothes, furnished my apt with draperies, curtains and pillows. However, being out there working also meant I could buy all of the latest fashions. My only child was a boy, so no need for frills and cutesy dresses to sew. It was not until my dad died when my son was three, that I realized what a gift I had from my dad for both sewing and gardening. I spent my career life using sewing and gardening as hobbies which flourished in traditional ways my father would be proud of. After I retired two years ago recognized quilting was indeed the craft within me, both nature and fantasy driven. For the past year I have pored over quilting designs and books, made samplers and dreamed of bigger projects. My excitement in joining Craftsy classes cannot be expressed until I share what I've created, for only then will all of this seem real. Stay tuned!
