My mother was my inspiration. She taught me how to embroidery at the young age of six. She was so patient and kind and would also thread the needle for me and take out the stitches when I made a mistake. All of my clothes were handmade by my mom until she started working outside of the home. One summer, when I turned fourteen, I decided to start sewing. I took her machine and then deconstructed a dress, cut out a pattern and made a vest. My mom and dad were so proud that my dad went out and bought me my own sewing machine. This skill helped me to earn enough money to pay for college. I sewed constantly for people. Thirty years ago I got so burned out that I stopped sewing completely. In February I signed up for a quilting class -- and now I have the "bug." My mom started a quilt over 60 years ago and my goal is finish it this year. It is an applique and I need a few more skills before I tackle the project. I love quilting. Since February I have made 12 quilts, I cannot wait until I retire in a few years so that I can work on my quilts. I love these crafty classes and just signed up for the block of the month 2013.
