I retired and I took my first quilting class in August 2011. I bought a Brother Project Runway Innov-is 40 and learned to sew and quilt during that class.
Joe, my husband, and I bought a 43' Allegro Bus Motorhome and are traveling and enjoying seeing family, friends and making new friends.
The challenge I had was figuring out how to continue piecing and quilting on the road without having the space or resources i have at home. I couldnt afford a total mess in our rolling 900 sq ft apartment, i do have to share with Joe. I quickly claimed a compartment in the underbelly. Motorhomes, for those who don't know have large storage compartments underneath the main coach body. I really wanted the compartment with the roll our drawer but I end up having to share that with Joe to. His tools sit next to my stash which i have organized in a large plastic container.
Traveling with your stash ensures you stay organized or relatively so. Joe is very supportive and doesnt mind me trashing the coach when I'm putting a quilt together. I'v been taking classes on Crafsty.com since last year when I signed up for the BOM, I just loved and looked forward to seeing Amy Gibson each month. I finished the blocks but have been busy with other projects and Need to pull it together and finish it up. I used Amy Butler Lark and I'm very happy with how it turned out, so far.
So we have been on the go for 9 months, and I have been able to be home for 3 or 4 MQG (Modern Quilting Guild) meetings, but its easy to keep up with what the guild is doing using our blog and the Facebook page, check out the page if your interested in the Modern Quilt scene.
