I started sewing when I was in junior high school, under the guidance of my mom, who was (and still is) a master! She taught me the correct way to construct garments, and when I tried to take short cuts, she made me tear out the seams and redo them...I hated that, but it is somthing that has stuck with me to this day, nearly 50 years later!
When I got married in 1970, I made my husband "leisure suits" which was the rage in the late 70's; he ended up with a suit in every color in the rainbow. I took a break from sewing after my son was born in 1976, and it wasn't until 2000 that I got back into the groove.
But my passion had changed from garment sewing to quilting. With my newly acquired interest in quilting, I was on a mission to make every family member a quilt! It has taken many years, and it didn't help that grandkids kept coming along, but I have pretty much accomplished my goal. Although I have another grandchild scheduled to arrive in January of 2013, and I just bought the fabric for that quilt today!
As those of you who quilt probably already know, making a quilt can take a considerable amount of time from start to finish. I saw myself becoming anxious to do quilting projects that didn't take quite so long. I found a couple of patterns for quilted purses so I made that my new mission. This was about 5 years ago. By then, my mom had gotten the quilting fever and she was making some small projects also. We got our heads together and decided to take our "bag of goodies" to a few craft shows. That was a lot of fun and we did fairly well.
I am now working on a quilt for me...this will be the first one I have made for me since I started my quilting adventure. When I discovered Craftsy BOM I became so excited because I now have a lot of ideas going around in my head for other quilt projects using the BOM patterns. Of course I have to finish my current project before I get on that band wagon.
All I can say is, stay tuned! Who knows where I will detour next...
