I grew up watching my mother crochet. When I was ten, my mother taught me how to crochet, but I only learned the chain and double crochet stitches. As a ten year old, I got bored very quickly with trying to make bedspreads out of double crochet and simply lost interest.
I've always known that when I had a child, I would teach her (or him) to crochet, to make it a tradition in my family. About ten years ago, I came to the realization that I couldn't really do that unless I knew how to crochet, and crochet well. So I picked up the hook and yarn again and taught myself how to read patterns. I love when I go home to visit and my mom and I sit on the couch and crochet together.
