I "craft" after I finishing teaching--university lecturer--so it tends to be in blobs. Spring or Winter break, a long weekend, etc... Therefore, I like projects that I can do in pieces--quilt squares, socks--always knit 2 at the same time, etc.
I started crafting by crocheting with my mom's mom and my dad's dad. She taught me how and he took up afghans as a winter retirement hobby. I sat around with either one and improved my skills while listening to stories. After they both passed away, and as a young mother, I took on the challenge of taking some courses. One in quilting and the other in knitting at Lambspun in Fort Collins, Colorado!!! They turned a "I'll never learn to knit but I want to make this one pair of mittens" fool, into a dyed in the wool knitter who always goes off on her own (3 courses later) cause something about the pattern is not what I want! I quilt as a break from knitting and because I love a good quilt--on the bed, couch, wall, in the kitchen, on the table-large and small, in my closet, over my shoulder.......and because I like patterns, color and sewing.
I joined Craftsy because I am forever a student and love to learn. My current goal is to actually finish a project from one of the classes I have taken!!! Ah well, retirement is in 15 or so years so I think I will reach my goal one of these days!!
