I am an avid crocheter! How did I learn? Well, my mom and nana crocheted, and when I was about 13 yrs old, I told them I wanted to learn. My mother, who was left handed told me it would be easier for me to learn the basics from my nana and that she would teach me the rest and how to read patterns. It was a little difficult at the time for me to understand how my nana was going to teach me... you see, she was blind! Nonetheless, she told me to bring her some yarn and a hook... and we got started!
Once I learned the basics, I then went to my mom who taught me stitches and how to read a pattern. Some times when she was showing me a specific thing, I would sit facing her, as if looking in a mirror. That is how we defeated the right hand, left hand issue!
I now have three daughters of my own... the 16 year old and the 14 year old know how to crochet... I am in the process of teaching little things here and there to my 5 year old to get her ready, as she is already telling me she wants to crochet! I love that craft and traditions are passed on!
