Learned to sew originally on a Singer treadle about age 5 or 6. and on electric sewing machines in three "Home Economics" classes - like most all female students who graduated in the 60's. My mother bought my sister and I each a sewing machine when we were 13; Cherri in 1960, and mine in 1964 from a school sewing machine supplier. Later I enjoyed making dresses and smock tops for my daughter - until she was old enough to say they were not "Designer" clothing about age 8! LOL!! I have made curtains, cushions, odds and ends over the years plus Halloween costumes and a poodle skirt for my granddaughter's 6th grade play - which by the next week I had pneumonia and was unable to attend. Someone told me how much better her's was than all the others; made me feel good even if they were handing me a line! My great-grandmother and her sisters all quilted, and I grew up watching them hand quilt, not machine quilt. I have wanted to learn quilting for many years. Now I am unable to work and plan on teaching myself with the help of Craftsy Online classes and the purchase of a few good books for back-up! I have a granddaughter and great-granddaughter and am determined to learn quilting. My granddaughter was learning quilting from her other grandmother and her mom many years ago. Her other grandmother moved to Florida, invested in a Long Arm Quilter, and has started her own business besides continuing to quilt and work full-time as a nurse. So if I cannot finish the actual quilting, I am sure she can! I am in need of all the pointers and helpful hints available! I was never very craftsy or artistic, except in sewing. The feel of the fabric, the view of color values, and textures simply make me feel better no matter how bad I am feeling.
