I used her pattern as a basis. Once you've done a tote, you really don't need a pattern, just your desired size. I also have never done a zipper like this one so I followed the instructions found here:
for installing the zipper. The handles were done by folding a strip of vinyl in half and then folding the edges into the center crease line. I just topstitched on the edge as close as I could get to the end and set my stitch length to the highest setting. My zipper is a little bunchy because I forgot to cut it down to size and there is a bit of excess fabric I had to deal with since I apparently also forgot to trim the sides to my actual bag dimensions.
Otherwise, this was an extremely simple and fairly rewarding process. I'm too much of a perfectionist to every truly be happy with the outcome of anything, lol. But I think I will invest in some real leather and see if I'm happier with the way my projects turn out.

I used a cotton or interior decorating weight material. I've had it for some time so I can't quite remember where I picked it up. Vinyl for the base and handles, purple cotton for the lining (not pictured).
