What materials did you use? cotton fabric, 80/20 cotton/poly batting, trilobal polyester thread on top, all-purpose polyester thread in bobbin

What are you most proud of? I chose quilting designs that fit my piecing designs and the limitations of my sewing machine. I quilted rounded feathers where the space was small, but in the wider strips of color in the quilt, I chose pointed fern-shaped feathers because my sewing machine's work space is too small to allow me to quilt big rounded feathers smoothly. The point at the top of the fern is a place to stop and reposition my hands if necessary. The result is a design that I could do a good job of quilting -- and the combo of small round feathers and large pointed ferns gives the design a welcome variety. I also love the way the thread builds up in the feather's spine. Using shiny trilobal polyester (Cindy Needham's idea), makes the quilting stand out. Now that I've made this quilt twice, I love it even more than the first time!

What advice would you give someone starting this project? 1. Just do it. Quit complaining about not having a fancy machine. 2. Keep practicing. 3. Keep in mind that value/contrast is at least as important as color in making your quilt beautiful.

Great job of taking full advantage of your skills and equipment. I was never able to do such large feathers on my DSM! The outer border adds a lot to your design.

Ha ha I love that you have kept the pink quilt for yourself, but Yellow Brick Road is also gorgeous! I love how you've taken such a simple little block and transformed it ... your colours are just fabulous. As for your feathers... WOW! Thanks also for the reminder that its ok not to expect our little DSM's to cope with larger scale feathers and to accept our own limitations!
