We use mostly maple logs approx 3 to 5 inches in diamater then cut lenghtways so there is a flat surface for them to sit on. Candles, hot glue and any type of little ornament or accessory you would like to put on them. We get ours at any dollar store.

had soem left over limbs from a tree that blew down.

Take your time and have fun, they can look like what ever you want them to look like.
