Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
Vintage French 1950's Style PinUp Corset »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Victorian / Steampunk, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Brocade, cotton broadcloth, boning, gold grommets, black ribbon

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration came from another corset project posted: http://www.craftsy.com/project/view/Vintage-French-1950s-Pin-Up-Corset/31908

I had made a brocade dress years ago that was truly awful - imagine a fancy potato sack! So, I cut it up and remade it into this! I call this one my "Sunday corset" since it looks so fancy. I have a simpler cotton one in the works for everyday wear.

I call this project Vintage Spanx since they look much nicer than actual spanx and are much more comfortable!

What are you most proud of?

In general, I'm proud that any project I start gets finished at my house! With this project, I still can't believe how beautiful it looks!

I didn't do the garter attachment since I don't wear stockings too often, but it would be very easy to add them later if wanted.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to cut into whatever fancy fabric you have - it will turn out gorgeous! And since this uses so little fabric, it's the perfect project to reuse fabric from a horrible project.

This is beautiful!! I would be temped to put the ties in the front as doing it by myself would be difficult. I have one shoulder that does not so good. Do you have help getting it tied up?

Nope, I tie it up by myself using the mirror, with the ribbon going from bottom to top. I find it easier that way. If my hubby helped me, it wouldn't get done in the first place! :)

Just gorgeous! And I love how you used the fabric from an unsuccessful project. Way to go!
