Valentine Houndstooth Scarf

Be My Valentine!

Be My Valentine!
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Weaving

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Traditional, Romantic

Materials

Hand-dyed worsted weight wool

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make the classic houndstooth scarf, but with a twist. I love pink and brown together and thought this would be the perfect color combination for Valentine's Day and beyond!

What are you most proud of?

This is the first scarf I have woven using my own hand-dyed yarn. I dyed the pink and it came out just the way I wanted it to.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Even if you are a beginning weaver you can do houndstooth! It just looks complicated - it's really not. Just alternate your two colors using two warp threads and then weave two picks of each color for your weft. Easy peasy!

I'm a knitter not a weaver. But this makes me want to learn. This is beautiful. And theres just something about houndstooth that catches the eye.

Thank you! I was a knitter before I was a weaver, and I have to admit that my knitting has taken a back burner to my weaving! I am not a fast knitter so for me weaving is so satisfying as I can weave a scarf in probably a third of the time it would take to knit it. I started with a rigid heddle loom - the Schacht Cricket is a great starter loom, and you can get one for less than $150. Go for it!
