Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Eco-Friendly, Hipster, Cute, Retro / Vintage, Classic, Whimsical, Mod

Materials

Various wool-blend suit pieces, interfacing, 1 covered button kit, a bleach bottle (rinsed and pressed), thread.

What was your inspiration?

My son loves vintage style, clothing, comics, games - you name it! This hat was inspired by all the thrifted wool-blend suits you can find for a few dollars at the thrift store and my son's own sartorial leanings. (I also made his hoodie and coat!)

What are you most proud of?

I love the fit - Nels' head is 21" and the hat fits this size perfectly with a little room to grow.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be careful hat-sewing... the slightest deviation can result in a too-small or too-large result. When looking for a pattern, see if you can find one with elastic play in the hatband, if you don't mind the small style-sacrifice.
