What was your source for this crocheting project?
Online Photo or Website
Name of website or photo Two-Tone Plaid Placemats
What materials did you use? Cotton crochet thread, size 10 - 500 yds of light tone, 450 yds of dark tone, and 160 yds of coordinating metallic per placemat; and a size D (3.25 mm) crochet hook.
What are you most proud of? I love snowflakes and try to incorporate them in as many designs as possible. I think the snowflake in the corner turned out really nice. I'm very pleased that I was able to stitch the snowflake so that it is exactly the same on both sides.
What advice would you give someone starting this project? This is not as complicated as it looks! The reversible design is achieved by alternating a light and dark tone, using a combination of sc and long hdc which are worked into the previous row. The long hdc are worked with the light tone on odd rows and the dark tone on even rows creating the reversible effect. A length of thread is left at each end of the rows for the fringed placemat; the ends are woven in for the bordered placemat. The placemats are worked with two strands of thread held together. The vertical stripes and snowflake are embroidered on the placemat using straight stitches. A design chart is also included with the pattern. The finished sizes are: 13-1/2" x 18" with Border 13-1/2" x 21" with Fringe This pattern is available for $4.00 and is written in U.S. terms.
