Instructions

I used the Chisholm trail pattern... Except I used all half square triangle blocks... (because I think I can be more accurate than with the flying geese blocks). I set them with sashing and cornerstone pieces. I also changed the background fabric so I had two basic backgrounds and set the block for a secondary "Barn Raising" type design layout. This quilt was for a raffle at the local ...

Materials

Cotton Batiks in four colors

What was your inspiration?

The print background fabric used in the center and outer corners... It is MOST AWSOME! Plus we needed a pattern that a group of women from the church could help with... making 500+ half square triangles kept them busy :-)

What are you most proud of?

Everyone who helped... This group of women take whatever I throw at them for the baazar quilt... from 500+ half square triangles to foundation paperpiecing... they are great and I am proud of all of them for showing up and taking on a job! (even if they don't sew)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time... layout the blocks to make sure you are puttig the backgrounds in the right spots. AND remember... a quilt is just as much about the journey as it is the final destination!

Thank you. I have been so busy this last 6 months that I haven't had time to play and complete much. Hopefully I will have some more finished tops to share soon.

How pretty, but it looks difficult.

not difficult... just tedious with trimming all the 1/2 square triangles... just do it one block at a time and before you know it... you have enough to make a quilt!

I counted blocks for you... you need 12 blocks with all medium background... 8 blocks with all light background... 12 blocks with half and half and the middle diagonal being light... 4 blocks with half and half and the middle diagonal being medium.... 28 medium sashing pieces with 32 light sashing pieces. I hope that helps! Enjoy!
