Instructions
This was an experiment of sorts and the results were quite nice. I have a tutorial with step by step instructions and photos at http://www.edgedesserts.com/2012/12/tie-dyed-buttercream-cutouts.htmlDifficulty:
Category: Cake Decorating
Type of item: Food
For: Unisex
Style: Cute, Whimsical
Materials
Cake, Food Coloring, Buttercream, Cutters and Piping Tips
What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was trying to create a really cool tie-dyed effect without using fondant or gumpaste.... I had done piped buttercream transfers in the past and just thought this would work.
What are you most proud of?
I think I am the most proud that it actually worked! I was really unsure if I was going to have decorations I could actually use on the cake and to be honest, I didn't really have a plan B....
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Work quickly with the buttercream cutouts... use wax paper to press them onto the cake to avoid fingerprints... and be prepared to put them back into the freezer multiple times. They thaw out fast!
