Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
Vintage Style 1940's Tap Panties »

Instructions

Definitely look at her website for more specific instructions on working this pattern.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Cotton broadcloth, lace

What was your inspiration?

All classic movies, especially the ones that show lingerie!

What are you most proud of?

Taking my first vintage pattern and creating it. I've made other vintage-inspired items from modern patterns, but this is the first one that made me really call up my inner-seamstress. I think my grandmother would be proud!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Check out her website for more precise instructions, but don't forget to really make it your own. I did pearl snaps instead of buttons, and a simple hem instead of bias binding. And though I used a cotton broadcloth (I have some sateen to use for my next pair), this pair works for me because it is functional (I would much rather the world see these under my skirts instead of the skimpy modern items) and I can just throw them in the wash (and I also won't mind the neighbors seeing them when I line dry in the summer!).

These are beautiful! They're also the first pair of Pauline tap panties I've seen made up aside from my own. Thanks so much for sharing your pictures!
