Materials

An old sweatshirt, denim, D-rings,and grommets.

What was your inspiration?

I have lots of old sweatshirts that I can't seem to part with. I designed this sweatshirt when I was working at Creighton (and the Beernuts sweatshirt was from one of my CU students!). So both are special to me.

What are you most proud of?

Getting the design/logo centered and getting the grommets installed correctly. This is my own pattern/design - I love backpacks.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The grommets can be a pain - I found that a good hammer, a strong arm, and solid cement work best.

Unfortunately, I'm TOTALLY challenged when it comes to sewing!! I sometimes manage to do some VERY basic stiching on my greeting cards - but beyond that, it's a bit of a challenge for me -and for goodness sake...let's not even talk about being able to follow a pattern!!. I appear to have a love - hate relationship with my sewing machine, so I just admire all the projects people post on this website instead. Maybe someday I'll overcome my sewing phobia - but in the meantime, I live vicariously through others and admire all the sewing and knitting projects I see posted. LOL

Oh don't give up! I've taught a lot of beginners and in most cases the problem lies with bad equipment...most likely a machine that doesn't work well. Very, very few lack the aptitude for sewing. So keep trying!
