What was your inspiration?
Cardboard play crowns, felt ones, real crowns. Classic depictions of the sun.
What are you most proud of?
This was my prototype for a pattern I am working on. I love the wavy rays, but they are very hard to turn and sew correctly. I was fairly happy with the adjustable fit, but ultimately felt it was too complicated for little kids, and changed the method for the final version.
Also, this design is very durable - my boys have played with this prototype for 2 years and it has been washed in the machine a few times, and it is still sturdy and wearable.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I think the wavy rays make this an advanced version of a sewn play crown. My other version is a much faster project.
