What was your inspiration?
This is my subimssion to the CIF SPARK Project. It is a call to 100 artists in the Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada mental health community to submit works of their interpretations of a phoenix (which is the logo of the CIF - by the way they are a VERY interesting, long running and successful organisation created by and run by persons with mental illness, check them out here if you have a minute: http://www.spotlightonmentalhealth.com ). So the motto and driving idea behind SPARK is "1 idea, 100 ways", and in their own words "Alone each submission is a representation of one person and altogether the artworks make up the diverse population and on mental health." They are still taking submissions till October 2012, check it out here http://www.thespark100project.com .
I liked the idea of showing the phoenix at the moment of change, with fire and smoke - whether that moment is it dying and being consumed by the flames, or being reborn from the flames is up to you to decide.
Unfortunally the project had to be quite small (the size of a sheet of paper) as as SPARK is going to be putting all 100 submissions together to made into one giant piece that will be shown around Vancouver.
What are you most proud of?
Thinking out side of my usual ways and experimenting with fabric.
This is a link to my blog that shows the progression of the project :) http://www.oddcatstitches.com/2012/08/the-phoenix-project.html
