Sewing: stripes
308 kudoz

stripes

my favorite easy dress

another great fabric for this style
my favorite easy dress
with the baby bump : )

Instructions

this is the easiest dress to make, just take some soft stretchy material, cut a square (i did 40"x40") fold it in half, then in half again then cut a half circle at corner where all folds go together and that's the bottom half, then sew tube top part (or any style top you want) and sew top to bottom, i left edges unsewed so it flows better into points

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Cute, Casual

Materials

material, thread, sewing machine

What are you most proud of?

the way it came out and the fact that it was only a twenty minute project...and this style is great for maternity wear as well

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

use a soft stretchy material with a good flow preferably something that wont fray so you can leave the bottom edges without a seam for a better flow

this looks good with stipes but will be equally as good with any print.

I'm not quite as good at improvising ;-) Please give directions for the top of the dress.

i really just made a tube shape a little smaller than my bust size (because this is stretch material)

I love this design!! I think what is confusing people is that you need to cut a quarter circle rather than a half circle at the corner of where the folds meet. When the fabric is completely unfolded, there should be a perfect circle in the center. The size of the circle depends on where you want the skirt portion of the dress to sit, i.e. waist or under the bust (the circle circumference should be the same size of your waist).

Wicked simplest ideas always the best knocked up 4 in as many hours. Can't figure how people need more direction I just looked at it and could see how it went.

This is a great looking project. Kudos on the results of a 20 minute labor! Love this! Please try to add a few more comments to have a better understanding on where to sew what and the like as many may not understand how to assemble this.

thank you, and it is kind of hard to describe but i will try....as far as bottom half of dress goes there is no sewing involved just fold the square in half, then in half again and cut half circle in the corner where all folds meet....the top i just cut a long piece of fabric (length of my chest measurement) the sewed to make circle, then i sewed that the the bottom half (where the circle i cut was) leaving the seam in the center front so i could create the gather (by adding elastic to seam) hope that helps
