Strings Gone Wild

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Casual

Materials

cotton fabrics, batting

What was your inspiration?

Just using up scraps. I've always enjoyed playing with "strings."

What are you most proud of?

The color combination.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

One can use only shorter scraps for a project like this, but I did make a number of the blocks by strip-piecing strings that were a full width of fabric, then into blocks and finally on the diagonal for the block sections. Saves time.

I'm a big fan of your quilts. Love the designs, and appreciate the random and highly successful intuition you have for combing colors. What size is this quilt? Just curious. I love it!

Thanks. The size is roughly 60 x 88 inches. I made this quilt to cover my 18 x 60 inch pressing table in the sewing room. When I started it, I still had three cats who liked to use that table to watch birds out the window or nap whenever I wasn't using it and though they got hair all over the quilt, that was better than getting hair all on the muslin cover and consequently on my projects. I've since lost all three cats (natural causes), so I don't keep the pressing board covered as regularly as I did formerly, but it is still a nice colorful addition to the room when I choose to display it.

Thanks. I sewed them straight of grain, then cut them diagonally.
