Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

I created a book-style binding, instead of grommets and rings.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Traditional

Materials

cotton fabrics, thread, fast-2-fuse interfacing

What was your inspiration?

As suggested in the Stupendous Stitching online class, I created this "Stitch Bible" book to have most of my decorative stitches from my machine conveniently in one place so I can quickly and easily refer to them. I especially found useful stitching each first in the default setting, then manipulating the stitch length and width to see how differently they can look. I was pleasantly surprised! This was a very good lesson and project, which I'm certain I will turn to often.

What are you most proud of?

I created a cloth, book-style binding, instead of using grommets and rings. It fits nicely on the bookshelf in my sewing room.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I was tempted to skip this lesson's project because I'm so anxious to start on the creative work of art that is the main project of this course. I'm so glad I didn't! I learned a lot about the decorative stitches on my machine, how to manipulate them to achieve different looks and now I have a handy reference for future use. My advice: Don't skip creating a Stitch Bible!

I've been thinking about creating a stitch book but hadn't thought to create anything as nice as this. Thank you for the inspiration. This is awesome!

Thank You for the idea. When I first got my two latest machines I kept thinking I should do each stitch and save it somewhere! Yours is lovely.
