What was your inspiration?
The free pattern for a paper bag skirt - I used the drafting technique to draft this pattern for my own skirt. The tutorial gives full info on sizing and drawing up your pattern and how to sew. She recommends a stiffer fabric like a linen or cotton twill to hold the pleats and stiffen the waistband, but I fancied a lighter version and this was made with yet another fabric remnant a soft and drapey navy blue something. It makes the skirt very light and cool to wear and gives it a softer appearance than the one featured in the tutorial. I also made mine a little longer and fuller. We dont want to copy -right?
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This really was easy to make, and easy to sew. It was my first time with a zip, but it went together just fine with my swanky new adjustable zipper foot. Everything you need is in the great tutorial enjoy! (Modeled with my scoop neck t-shirt from the Sewing with Knits course.)
