What was your inspiration?

I really wanted to learn to knit lace. I have always avoided charts at all costs. The Craftsy on line class is wonderful! Laura Nelkin is an excellent teacher.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I am actually knitting a beautiful lace shawl which I never thought I would be capable of doing. I have a dear friend who taught me to knit about four years ago and she told me that if you can knit and purl you can make anything! Not exactly!!! My past attempts at following charts of any size was futile at best.

Laura Nelkin has shown me the way....I can now read and more importantly follow a chart! Her tips are invaluable such as using markers for each section in case you lose your way, the use of lifelines, correcting sections and so many more too numerous to list.

Note: As Laura has told us, when you are learning to knit lace you may need to go to a "quiet place" with no distractions. Great tip.......

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just do it!!! I use the videos on my Ipad most of the time. I keep that on my lap and always watch the entire section before I pick up my needles. I go back and review and rewatch the sections for stitches I am not sure of. This on-line class is just incredibly valuable. There is no need to leave the house. The instructor is responsive if you have a question. You can check out others work, read their posts and gather many valuable tips there as well.
The course materials are very well presented and include everything you could possibly need to make this beautiful shawl. They really thought this out and have also included ENLARGED charts for the convenience of their student learners.
Well done. I certainly hope Laura Nelkin will offer many more classes just like this on Craftsy!!
