Sewing with knits

My first ever, V-neck tee

My first ever, V-neck tee

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

I really enjoyed learning the tricks to sewing with knits. I did post a suggestion as to a good way to match the V in the top to the "groove" in the trim as you sew them together...as asked by Meg.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Traditional

Materials

Cotton/spandex knit

What was your inspiration?

Nice fabric. Not thin and cheap looking.

What are you most proud of?

The V is perfectly performed!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid. Just do it! It is so easy.

In the class questions at the V-neck spot, you responded to another persons question/suggestion on how to attach the neckband at the V point. You said something like pinning perpendicular to the V. Can you elaborate a little. I really want to make a Vneck Tshirt but this part scares me. Thanks.

Have you ever turned inside points in sewing like sewing insets? If you sew to the point, leave the needle down in the fabric, clip the piece you are attaching to the seam in the allowance, then turn the fabric (in this case the trim)

how in the world did that happen! so sorry! I dont' see how to delete them either! So, to continue! turn the trim around the corner and continue on. It turns nicely if clipped. I would say to try it out on scrap. Make a sample like putting a piece of bias cut strip on a square of fabric. Kinda like putting trim or piping on a pillow. I put lots of bindings on quilts! Now I need to go see if I can figure out how to undo all those flags which I have no idea where they came from! All I was trying to do was to correct a spelling error in my post!

I like it. Where did you buy the fabric? The color is beautiful. Did you use the pattern come with class?

Thank you. I found the fabric at JoAnns. Yes, it is the V-neck tee shirt pattern. Did you make the bag in your profile picture? I love making bags!
