What was your inspiration?
The SewforaCause was sponsored by Suede Baum who was a designer on Season 5 of Project Runway. He designed the pattern for Simplicity and then invited sewers to join in designing their take on the bag. It used quilted fabric and I couldn't find any that I liked so I quilted the brocade to the silk. I added a hook in the back inside for my keys and a side pocket for cell phone, etc. I also made a couple of travel cosmetic bags from my own pattern to use with the bag.
What are you most proud of?
That I made a "suitcase" especially out of brocade and silk. A little extravagant but I love it!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Be prepared if your fabric is too thick. Inside seams are to be encased in bias strips and with the quilted fabric, piping, zippers, etc, the fabric can get really thick and hard to work with.
