What was your inspiration?
This was the dress my daughter chose for her school ball. She originally wanted to have the bodice strapless but when we went to buy the fabric the man who owns the shop gave her some great design tips and told us that a strapless bodice would make her look shorter and recommended the wide v-neck instead.
What are you most proud of?
That I managed to finish it in time for the ball! I should have started making it earlier than I did so I was a bit strapped for time but because I had already made one couture dress it was much easier and quicker to apply the techniques to this second dress
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Sequins are tricky to sew but I used the couture techniques I learned from Susan's course and the dress turned out very well. I would have needed a totally different approach without the organza underlining because the sequins were on a slightly stretchy fabric and needed stabilising. I should have spent some time trimming the sequins out of the dart and seam areas to reduce bulk but I didn't have time to spare
