I made this quilt for my 2-year-old great nephew, who loves firemen! So I embroidered an S on the front of the hat. I'd never appliqued anything before, and I found Wendy Butler Burns course to be very helpful!

Wow, that helmet looks great! Can't believe you made it look this good from tracing a projected image. Great job KChristine! Love the texture of that gray fabric...is that all quilting or part of the print?

I think I took this photo before I quilted it. I chose the gray fabric to look like smoke, and I quilted whirls on it to enhance the look of smoke. I quilted flames in the border. I'm now crazy about pictorial quilts -- can't wait to do one that's a little more ambitious!
