Instructions

I pretty much followed the pattern for this one, with the exception of using snaps and self bias strips for the crotch closure, rather than snap tape.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Traditional, Preppy, Cute, Casual, Retro / Vintage, Military, Classic, Whimsical

Materials

Cotton Seersucker from Joann and cotton broadcloth from FabricMart, buttons from stash, snaps from SewBaby, twill tape trim from stash

What was your inspiration?

I received this pattern as a gift, and wasn't really sure I was going to sew it, but did on a whim. I'm so glad I did! It's adorable!!

What are you most proud of?

Holy cow, that kid is cute! I'm quite pleased with how well the snap crotch turned out. I sort of just played it by ear in assembly, so I'm really glad it all came together.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Go for it! The pattern is a good one, and the result is seriously adorable. Although I don't think this would be a great first project, it would be fine for someone who is a relative beginner. It is also a great way to learn to do a continuous lap, as the lap is in a seam, which is much easier than the slash and staystitch version. Simplicity's directions for it are quite good.

Adorable. I have made this pattern several times, and each time is cuter than the next. I made one of dark blue linen with a white handkerchief linen collar. I love sewing for children! Love the trim on the seersucker and of course the 'model' couldn't be cuter!!
