Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Outdoorsy

Materials

Cotton fabrics and various thread types, pellon for foundation, craft glue, cotton batting

What was your inspiration?

While on vacation in the Pacific Northwest, our family visited the Olympic National Park and spent an afternoon on Ruby Beach. It was such a beautiful beach, I had to make a quilt of it!

What are you most proud of?

This was my first attempt of a photo-inspired art quilt and it was also juried in the Northwest Quilting Expo in Portland, OR. Although it did not win an award, it was exciting and very humbling to have one of my pieces hanging among some very creative artists!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It looks a little overwhelming at first, but if you begin by looking to the background of your photo and begin to layout your fabric choices from there and gradually work your way to the foreground, it becomes very gratifying.

I like your "fussy-cutting. I also love to get a photo and make a wall quilt. Beautiful work!

This piece was a lot of work with all the detail, but so much fun to watch it develop!
