Category: Quilting

Materials

T-shirts, quilt fabrics, denim and satin for the front; muslin for the back and cotton batting.

What was your inspiration?

The father of four of my grandchildren was an avid Harley-Davidson fan and attended many rallies over the years, and had t-shirts from these rallies. He died in 1999 and my daughter asked me to use the t-shirts to make quilts for the grandchildren and these are what I came up with. I used the orange and black flames as they are Harley-Davidson colors. I used black to set off the images of the t-shirts; I used denim because he always wore blue-jeans. I used some red satin because he would have loved it.

What are you most proud of?

That they're finiished.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be very careful using knits - stabilize thoroughly and measure carefully.

Those are so great! What a special memory for the kids. I am glad you had enough shirts to make them each one. I'm sure they will treasure them and makes it even more special that their grandma made it for them.
