Quilting: Red Cathedral window quilt

Red Cathedral window quilt

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Traditional

What was your inspiration?

I always wanted to make a large quilt and fell in love with the Cathedral window style after browsing the internet. Little did I know how long it would take almost 18 months. Apart from the bordered edges all of it is hand sewn

What are you most proud of?

Finally finishing the quilt. I broke my wrist last year just as the quilt was about 4 ft square, then had to rest in between stitching sessions due to the strain on my wrist.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It doesn't matter how long it takes to make anything.

Thanks, I put the banding on like a normal patchwork quilt one side, then attached the white on the back the same it was fiddly I added the wadding and finished it of. Hard to explain, just to say luckily it all worked out fine, I think the banding finishes it off and my Daughter is delighted with it, the only problem is it is very heavy.

beautiful love the colours , I spend the winter hand sewing my japanese cathedral window quilt, took me several years to find the right fabrics and so far 6 months to sew ....and a fair way to go. Totally inspired to pick it up again seeing your beautiful quilt. awesome job well done !

Absolutely beautiful and I love, love, love the red! My daughter is getting married and she loves red and I think this would be absolutely perfect for her! Her Godmother would have made her a quilt but she recently passed so I'm going to try to do it instead! I have plenty of time too (wedding in June 2014!). :D

Beautiful job. I have one started (about 3' square now), and hope to work on it all winter. No two center squares are alike in mine. I LOVE the reds!!! It is just lovely.

This is a work of art. Beautiful. I have an unfinished pillow-top from about 25 yrs ago when I first started learning to quilt...all done by hand...I think you have inspired me to finish it! Hope you win a ribbon for this.

This is such an amazing looking quilt, I have seen it before but never using these colors. This has inspired me to make my a crib blanket using alabama colors for my grandchild. Can't wait to see the results. Thanks for the inspiration.

I made one of these about 4 years ago and entered it into our local fair. It took first place and best of show. I then chanced it off at a family reunion and donated the money to reunion fund. Loved working on mine.
