Recycled shirt and short set

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Classic Tailored Shirt »

Instructions

This shirt is a size 3, the others were size 2. To me this looks a bit big but mother is happy as it will fit next year.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Boys

Style: Classic, Cute

Materials

Two shirts from a thrift store.

What was your inspiration?

I was looking for shirts at the thrift store that had interesting buttons that I could reuse and thought the stripy material would make a nice shirt for my nephew - then I got a lime green linen shirt to make the matching shorts

What are you most proud of?

recycling

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Reusing the front band complete with buttons and button holes from the original shirt saves alot of time - I buttoned the shirt fronts together the wrong way (so they lay flat together) and cut out both at the same time to ensure the buttons and button holes would line up on the new shirt.

Hi, Very clever use of materials to be able to save time! Great job on your construction of the shirt and shorts. What a cute outfit for a cutie pie :-)) Can't wait to see more of your creations! Thanks, Pam

Nice work. Which pattern did you use for your nephew's shirt? I intend to sew one for my cousin's son. He's 7. He's requested for a shirt with a dinosaurs! Boys!

I used kwik sew 3079 but would not recommend this as it is for toddlers sizes 1-4 and the pattern dosn't include a collar band - I drafted a patter piece for this myself. I think that any boys shirt pattern that has the same elements as the shirt Pam teaches should work fine.
