Railfence Baby Quilt

Instructions

Use 2" strips of 8 different fabrics, with different color values. Join 4 fabrics to make two sets of 6-1/2" wide strips. Cut into squares. Alternate the two sets horizontal and vertical to get a stairstep pattern across the quilt. Add border, binding- done!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Boys

Style: Cute

Materials

cotton fabric, rayon embroidery thread, batting

What was your inspiration?

I found these beautiful rocket and robot fabrics, and they were irresistible

What are you most proud of?

How the colors blended, and the embroidered quilting

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Lay out your fabric, folded and shifted by 2" so you get a feel for how the colors blend. Be sure to choose fabrics of different values, or the railfence effect will be lost.
A design wall helps a lot - I would have certainly made (more) errors in joining the squares otherwise!
