Basic pattern designed by Precious Patterns. My original inspiration came from this pattern by Precious Patterns, I have however made significant modifications to the style, including the shape, size of brim and addition of a snap chin strap. What was your inspiration?
Having a baby was my inspiration to teach myself how to really sew a complete project. I came up with the idea to make a baby bonnet, inspired by my love for all things Little House on the Prairie and the prairie or Holly Hobbie type bonnets I used to wear as a little girl.
I wanted to try a bonnet, but had no idea where to start, and I wanted to give it a modern spin, and use some vibrant modern prints.
What are you most proud of?
I was super proud of my first finished bonnet, because it was basically the first completed sewing project I've ever done. Although it is a very basic pattern, it was also the only true pattern I have tackled & won. I still don't know how to use your average store bought patterns, but I am getting more comfortable with online tutes/pdf patterns I've downloaded & printed to use.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Take your time. Don't skip steps when you do your first one. Have fun with the fabrics you choose, they can really change the look of the bonnet.
