I needed a birthday gift for a teen girl.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Crochet a cone or "V" shape by starting with a chain of 4 and connect to form a ring. Chain 2 and then double crochet 6 in the center of the ring. Do not increase over another increase. Add increases every other round until it looks right and it fits the head or about 20 inches around.
