Instructions

This pattern uses the tube quilting method...so simple, and with fast results!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Infant/Baby

Style: Funky

Materials

Jelly roll - Robert Kaufman fabrics. Solid white also cut in to 2 1/2" strips. 100% cotton batting and backed with solid pink.

What was your inspiration?

I fell in love with these fabrics when they came in to the fabric store that I manage. I immediately wanted to do up a baby quilt for display to advertise a 'tube quilting' class in the Fall.

What are you most proud of?

This is my third quilt using the 'tube quilting' method, and with every one I learn something new...or rather, something I did wrong on the others, that I have corrected as I went along. I think I'm getting the hang of it! I love how quickly these quilts go together - this quilt top I did in just over 3 hours on a rainy Sunday afternoon - a baby size 43"x53".

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Keeping everything 'square' as you go is the key...as I've learned in the few quilts I've done. Of course this isn't news to those that have quilted for some time, but I'm stepping out of my 'comfort zone' (I'm a kilt maker) in to the world of quilting - completely different than what I'm used to!! Usually I just help pick out fabrics to have quilts made, but thought I would try it myself this time...addictive!

Also, since I'm a sewer who normally would use a lot of steam in the iron....don't do that in quilting!! (that's a hard habit to break, as I use a lot of steam in everything else I sew)

YEP, your hooked. I really enjoy it all. Of course, I have had such a wonderful affair with fabric since I was a little girl making doll dresses. Make sure you show us your next project. Have a lot of fun Karen.

Thank you! I am very new to this, and love the simplicity of a tube quilt - I like to see results quickly, this only took a few hours. I manage a fabric store, and fell in love with this collection when we got it in the other day - decided to make it up for a display to advertise a 'tube quilting' class in the fall.

I have to admit....quilting is addictive though, I'm already looking at what to do for my next project!
