What was your inspiration?
This eagle is to commemorate my brother's 65th birthday on October 22. He's a VietNam Veteran who served as an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force. He loves music, Harley's, plays the guitar, and is a proud American. I wanted to make something for him that I felt would speak to him as a proud veteran and express his patriotism. I found an eagle and envisioned cutting the eagle out of black fabric and appliqueing it onto a patriotic background. My sisters and I worked on this together, and we mounted and framed it instead of finishing it off as a quilted hanging. It came out beautiful and will be presenting it to our brother in the near future when we travel up to Oklahoma. A little late, but better late than never.
What are you most proud of?
That this came together so beautifully! The pictures don't do it justice. This is a project we're proud of.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
It's labor intensive cutting out the eagle pieces and then appliqueing it. But the result was worth the effort! Take your time and be patient!
